COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

People are getting in shape for the holidays but you don't have to break the bank in order to look good for the new year.

Gyms are offering great deals like at Snap Fitness on Double Churches Road in Columbus.

The owner Randy Lee said the crowds are coming.

He said, "It definitely gets busier in the gym. We have current members who don't come as often. You'll see them, you'll see more familiar faces that you haven't seen in a while. You'll get new members into the gym trying to shed the pounds."

If you want better health, but would rather stay home and exercise you can get it for free.

Lee explained,"There are a number of exercises you can do that you don't even need a gym."

You can get on the floor and grab a can of food or fruit like a melon if you don't have a medicine ball and just twist.

This exercise targets the sides of the core.

Of course the crunch helps form that six pack many of us want.

Raising your legs while lying on your back takes care of the lower abs.

Finally, the plank takes care of the whole core.

If you stay in this position for 60 seconds you will feel the burn.

People can exercise and get some cardio in without even trying too hard by cleaning the house with ankle and arm weights or taking the steps instead of elevators.

Another inexpensive way to get in shape is yoga because all you really need is a mat and DVD's are great too because they cost a few bucks and last forever.
