COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -
The suspect who police were tracking at a home on Yates Drive is now on the run. Major Randy Robertson with the Sheriff's Department told News Leader 9 they are searching for Brandon Reese, who is in his twenties.
Muscogee County Sheriff deputies went to serve a warrant on Reese a his home Wednesday for federal drug charges, but he was not there.
The deputy then saw a vehicle that either belonged to Reese or one of his friends at the Liberty Gas Station on Macon Road and stopped there to serve the warrant on Reese.
When they approached the vehicle, deputies found two males inside. Reese was apparently in the store.
The males in the vehicle tried to flee, backing up and hitting another vehicle and grazing the female deputy with their vehicle. The deputy fired a shot, but no one was hit.
Reese ran out of the store and to a friend's home nearby on Yates Drive. The two males at the gas station who hit the deputy were captured and taken into custody. No names or charges on them have been released at this point.
The deputy, also a member of the narcotics investigative team, was taken to the hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.
Deputies moved in on that home on Yates Drive, initially thinking Reese was inside. There was somewhat of a standoff for a while as they surrounded the home with guns drawn and tried to get him out. Eventually they sent in a robot and determined he was not inside.
Police confirm that they did find a loaded AK-47 and marijuana inside the home.
Authorities tell us they consider Reese to be armed and dangerous, and it's suspected that he may be carrying a high-powered weapon. If you know of his whereabouts please call Columbus police.
One of the suspects who was driving the car that
struck an officer appeared in court Thursday afternoon. Darius Upshaw pleaded
not guilty to charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the
commission of a crime and possession of marijuana. His bond has been set to $45,000 and his case
has been bound over to superior court.
