MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Leaders in Montgomery will soon unveil new development projects slated for 2013 which will cover the entire city.
Montgomery is a city on the move and the need for bike and pedestrian paths throughout the city is growing.
The city's Planning Department has been working on that for some time, but now the Development Department is joining them on that project with a new mission.
They want to connect bike and pedestrian paths to existing parks and green spaces in the city.
Leaders say they've been strategizing internally about how to bring everything together.
Chad Emerson, Development Director with the City of Montgomery explains, "we have a really aggressive plan for adding new bike paths throughout the city. So we can take that plan which the planning department is working on and then add in the new parks and updated parks like Wright Brothers Park and Boat Ramp park and hopefully we will have a string of parks throughout the city that pedestrians and cyclists can connect to through a really innovative program."
The other big news that will be announced Monday, is that they are putting out requests for proposals for two city-owned properties near Cramton Bowl.
There has been a lot of interest from throughout the region in the redevelopment of the Statehouse Inn site as well as other nearby property that the city owns.
Leaders also plan to unveil the city's new Public Art master plan at the meeting, which is set for 10 a.m. Monday, January 14th at the Department of Development.
