COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Some are calling it the worst flu season in recent years - 47 states have reported widespread flu activity.

Some of the highest levels of people contracting the flu are here in the south, and a local mother explains how these numbers make her feel.

"I got a 2-year-old, so I've got to be really careful. Just take the proper precaution and do what [you] need to do to as far as not getting that bug, because that is a serious bug going around right now," Columbus mother Stephanie Banks.

The flu shot is the best protection against the flu, but since more than 128 million shots have  been distributed nation-wide, flu vaccine supplies are dwindling.
