WTVM 1/17/13 Editorial: The search Muscogee County’s next superintendent

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Who will be the next person to lead nearly 30,000 school children in Columbus?

It's been nearly 7 months since Susan Andrews stepped down as superintendent of the Muscogee County school district, but the school board still hasn't hired her permanent replacement...and it's costing taxpayers more and more money.

A month ago, the board's chair Cathy Williams said they had four finalists and hoped to have a new superintendent by January 1 but at their first meeting of 2013, the Muscogee County School Board instead hit the reset button, voting to change search firms.

We want them to make the right choice for the next superintendent for our kids' sake...but I sure hope the new board can get their act together, set aside politics and get on with the business of identifying a leader who can make a positive difference in our educational system.
