AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

Auburn police say an Auburn football player's off-campus apartment was broken into this week and the thief stole something irreplaceable.

In 2010 The Auburn Tigers celebrated a perfect season and were awarded with both the SEC Championship Ring and a National Championship Ring.

Tuesday, Auburn police say the rings Blake Burgess earned as a part of the team were stolen from his off-campus apartment at the 400 block of North Donahue Drive.

Together the rings cost about $700, but in terms of sentimental value they are priceless.

"It is sad someone would take them," said Chief Tommy Dawson with the Auburn Police Department. "I can only imagine how much these rings mean to this young man."

Burgess is a fan favorite who's also the son of radio personality Rick Burgess of the popular Rick and Bubba Radio Show.

Along with his rings, Burgess's Football letterman jacket, an Xbox and some cash were taken Tuesday afternoon around 4 p.m.

Police say the apartment was not locked and it appears a roommate was sleeping when the theft took place.

"There may have been a witness to part of it, we are still looking into that we do have a possible person that we are looking for a description of a possible person we are looking for."

Dawson says it's possible the apartment complex, which he won't name, caught the thief on surveillance video.

Investigators are running down leads and are asking for any tips you may have on the case....

"If you see someone trying to sell the rings at a pawn shop or on the street, please call us because we want to get them back because they hold a lot of sentimental value to Mr. Burgess."

Chief Dawson says you still should always lock your doors, and most importantly if you see something or someone suspicious call 911 and let police check it out.
