Good Samaritans save family from sinking car

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

A mother and her kids are safe after passing drivers pulled the family from their sinking car after they were run off the road.

State Police say Mary Woodward was driving south on LA 21 with her children, ages, 7, 9 and 11, when a black sedan approached from behind at a high speed.

The sedan tried to pass several cars and forced Woodward's car off the road. The car plunged into the flooded river embankment at the base of the Bogue Chitto River Bridge and was partially submerged, trapping the family.

Passing driver James Garner, his fiancee Sue Ann Barkman, and several other unidentified Good Samaritans witnessed the crash and were able to rescue the mother and her kids.

Troopers are still looking for the black sedan involved in the incident.  If you have any information, call State Police at 985-893-6250.
