BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
The second annual Louisiana Marathon will run Sunday morning throughout Baton Rouge. Organizers say they are expecting thousands to turn out.
"We have 1,100 runners from outside Louisiana," says Craig Sweeney Race Director. "We have close to 4,500 that are registered so you know there's a significant amount from right here in our own back yard. There is a running boom in Baton Rouge."
One of the speakers at the race this year is G.P. Pearlburg. He is a professional runner from England. He is here by sponsors and is expected to contend. He says the weather is perfect for running. "For a distance runner, if you look at when world records are generally set, its usually going to be late fall or winter," says Pearlburg.
The 26.2 mile route starts at the Capitol, goes to North Blvd, turns on Park and winds around the lakes, eventually making it's way all the way to Roseneath Drive. From there it heads back to the capitol. It starts at 7 a.m. Sunday.
