COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Mayor's Commission on Unity, Diversity and Prosperity presented the Martin Luther King parade which marched from Phenix City to Columbus this morning.

It was the first parade to come through town this year.

Fort Benning's army band led the route across the Horace King Friendship Bridge to Broadway. Dancers and school bands strutted their stuff, entertaining the crowd.

It was perfect weather for the thousands of spectators who came to watch.

The event was something that everyone was excited to be a part of.

Mayor Teresa Tomlinson said the parade is one of many events held each year in commemoration of all Dr. King sought to do to unite the world.

Also riding in the parade were anchors Barbara Gauthier and Jason Dennis, along with Curtis McCloud at the wheel and Brittany Dionne.

The event reflects Dr. King's goal to create a community where every person is valued and presented with equal access to opportunities.
