NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

Steven Brooks, a Democrat representing Nevada's Assembly District 17, was arrested Saturday and charged with threatening a fellow state representative.

Brooks, 40, was no longer in custody Monday morning, according to jail records.

North Las Vegas police arrested Brooks during a traffic stop at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of Carey Avenue and Mt. Hood Street.

He was booked on one count of intimidating a public officer by threat of physical violence.

North Las Vegas police said Brooks was held on $100,000 bail.

Brooks' arrest came less than three weeks before the 2013 legislative session.

The Assembly Democratic Caucus issued a statement on Sunday saying, "We understand an investigation is currently ongoing and we have no further comment at this time.

Brooks is a management analyst with the City of Las Vegas' Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Department.

In a statement, a city spokesperson said Brooks' case was being treated as a personal matter and would be "thoroughly reviewed."

"Following that review, the city will take appropriate action," the statement read.
