CSU student attends presidential inauguration & ball

Marquese Averett's journey to the White House started when he began working for President Obama's campaign to recapture the White House for the second term.

Averett worked in Tacoma, Washington on the west coast; making sure to secure the state for the President. Now after tons of hard work, Averett enjoyed a front row seat to watch history unfold.

"Everybody knew each other. We were all friends because we were all there for a common purpose," Marquese Averett said about the inauguration.

Averett traveled with two friends from Columbus to Washington, D.C. over the weekend. Their road trip wasn't complete without a few pit stops along the way, visiting the King Center in Atlanta and Ebenezer Baptist Church where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a preacher.

They finally made it to D.C. and then it was rush to wait while traveling to the National Mall.

"I stood two hours in a Subway line like packed so it's a celebratory feel definitely in the air it's definitely crazy."

After driving more than 700 miles, waiting in line after line, Averett says it was all worth it to see and hear President Obama speak. He says it's a memory he will cherish for the rest of his life.

"The President said that our journey is incomplete and when you really think about we came so far," Averett said.

Averett also attended the President's Inaugural Ball Monday evening.
