MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
The Dexter Parsonage Museum opened on Monday in honor of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. It offered discounted rates, and attracted a good size crowd.
For many, the day took on added significance as it coincided with the second inauguration of President Barack Obama.
"It's awesome that it coincides together," said Lou Berry, who brought her grandchildren to the museum. "And I grew up during the Civil Rights Movement. And just wanted them to be exposed to some of it."
"I think it's a good day for our country. Just to see how far we've come and it all began back here with Dr. Martin Luther King," said Kelly Kuhl, who came with her family.
The parsonage tour gives people a chance to walk in King's footsteps, just as he beginning a journey that would change the world. The family lived in the home from 1954 -1960, when King was pastor at what is now called Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church.
The museum is open Tuesdays - Fridays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
