BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A house was destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning, but fortunately, the two people inside when it started made it out safely.

The fire sparked in the 10300 block of Winterhue Drive, which is off Siegen Lane, around 5 a.m.

The St. George Fire Department said crews rolled up on the scene to find the back of the home engulfed in flames.

Officials said the flames were shooting through the roof.

Investigators said the family heard popping sounds and awoke to smoke alarms going off in the home.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
