Nice today, but showers & storms return tomorrow

Updated:

Near perfect spring weather expected today in North Carolina, and the winds will not be a factor; but another cold front with a chance of showers and isolated storms arrives Friday.

Today with high pressure overhead, winds will be light and with temperatures pleasant with an afternoon high around 70.  Sunshine will rule the day.

Tonight will become partly cloudy with lows not as chilly as this morning was; the overnight low will be around 50.

A cold front will approach on Friday and skies will become mostly cloudy.  There could be a morning showers, but showers will be more numerous during the afternoon and evening hours as the cold front moves through the state.  There will also be a few isolated storms during the afternoon and evening with the frontal passage, but any storms are not expected to reach severe limits.  Although there still could be some gusty winds up to 45 miles per hour.  Highs on Friday will be in the upper 70s.

That front will weaken as it moves out to sea Friday night.  As a matter of fact the air behind the front is mild from the Pacific in origin, instead of from Canada.  So on Saturday, with mostly sunny skies, highs will still reach into the upper 70s.

Another front will try to drop down from the north on Sunday, but it now looks like it will stall near Virginia, so with partly sunny skies we should still make it into the upper 70s.

Monday will have a mixture of clouds and sun with a slight risk of a late day shower.  Highs on Monday will drop back into the middle 70s.

By Tuesday another cold front will approach from the west and the weather will become unsettled again.  Tuesday and Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated storms.  Highs both days will be in the middle 70s.

Cooler air will be moving in on Thursday for the start of May.
