FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) -

Fort Benning took time out on Tuesday to honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Although the official holiday was yesterday the army post held a commemorative service today in Marshall Auditorium.

The service's theme of "remember, celebrate, act" focused on the prominent events of King's life that were geared towards civil rights and racial equality.

Brigadier general Barrye Price was the guest speaker at Tuesday's event. Price said the military has faced many of the trials other Americans have gone through with fighting for equal rights. Price also gave a rendition of King's "I have a dream" speech.

There were also musical performances by Fort Benning's Sightseeing Road Chapel Choir.

Price is a distinguished military graduate of the University of Houston's college of business administration.
