COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Columbus police are searching for two men accused of opening fire into a home with children inside. It happened Monday in the early morning hours before school.

News Leader 9 spoke exclusively with students that live inside the home and a neighbor who said all she could think about was protecting her young son.

"I took him to the back of the house and put him up under the bed. At first I didn't know where the shots were coming from or anything."

The mother of one remained anonymous for her safety.

She said she'd just walked into her home close by when she says she heard a loud popping sound.

"How many shots did you hear? At first it was about 16 shots."

She said her neighbors were the intended target but she and her son were too close for comfort.

One of the students that lives inside the home that was targeted said there was a group of at least five men that shot into her home, then took off on foot down the street.

The student said she didn't know why they shot into her home.

The neighbor explained as soon as she thought the coast was clear gunfire erupted again.

"Probably about two hours late there were six more shots."

This time the men came back in a dark green four door Saturn.

The woman said the shooting had everyone in the neighborhood on edge. The neighbor also said she didn't know why the shooting occurred.

Columbus Investigators reported they believe the shooting was drug related.

We spoke with several others in the neighborhood who tell us the incident was a drug deal gone wrong.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

Columbus police described two persons of interest. One suspect is a bald headed black man that weighs at least 180 pounds. He was wearing a white shirt and black pants.

The second suspect is at least 5'10. He was wearing a hoodie with black writing, black pants, and a black stocking over his head.
