PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A suspected drunken driver who led Phoenix police on a short chase was three times over the legal limit, according to a court document.

Officers said they used a spotlight to try to slow down Manny Fernandez, 25, who was driving northbound on Interstate 17 near the Durango Curve.

Fernandez sped up and police said they estimated he was traveling more than 85 mph in a 55 mph zone.

When officers tried to conduct a traffic stop, Fernandez kept going and exited onto Buckeye Road, court documents stated.

He continued to elude law enforcement until several other police units arrived.

They finally got Fernandez to pull over in the center of an intersection at 4300 W. Thomas Rd.

Police said his BAC was 0.243.
