YUMA, AZ (CBS5) -

Yuma police are searching for a prisoner who escaped Municipal Court on Wednesday.

Officers said dispatchers began getting multiple 911 calls about a disturbance involving a man in a jail uniform and restraints who was fleeing the area of 16th Street and Fourth Avenue.

A short time later, the prisoner allegedly approached a woman and stole her vehicle.

Police identified the man as 28-year-old Raul Dominguez. He is described as 5'6" tall and weighs 134 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. The vehicle is described as a white, 2002 Mazda van with Arizona license plate 710 HNE. The van had a front vanity plate of an American flag.

About two hours later, at about2 p.m., the van was spotted by U.S. Border Patrol near the area of County Eighth Street and the levee road. The driver fled but later stopped, got out and ran away on foot.

He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and tan pants, deputies said.

Law enforcement conducted a multi-jurisdictional search involving Mexican authorities but Dominguez was not found.

Earlier during the day, Dominguez was transported by municipal court officers from the Yuma County Detention Center to the City of Yuma Municipal Court for his initial appearance on several offenses from the day before. After the initial appearance, he escaped, police said.

The Yuma Police Department says anybody with information about his whereabouts should call Detective Melissa Norred at 928-373-4686 or Yuma Police Department at 928-373-4700 or 78-Crime to remain anonymous.
