Funeral set for former Sen. Hinton Mitchem

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Funeral arrangements are set for a long-serving member of the Alabama Legislature, former state Sen. Hinton Mitchem of Union Grove.

Visitation will be Friday afternoon at Adams Funeral Home in Albertville. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Moss Service Funeral Home in Cullman.

Mitchem died Tuesday after a long illness. He was 74.

The longtime tractor dealer in Albertville was first elected to the Alabama House in 1974. He later served in the state Senate, rising to the post of president pro tem.

Mitchem was in the Senate until his retirement in 2010. He was a Democrat.
