COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

It's that time of year again to get your paper work together and start filing taxes.  If doing your taxes yourself is something you do not feel comfortable with, the Chattahoochee Valley VITA Coalition can help.

VITA, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, has been active in the valley for about 8 years.

The program's goal is to help families that make under $51,000 a year prepare their taxes for free.

Lerone Harper, with the Consumer Credit Counseling Service, explains why everyone who qualifies should take advantage of this free service. "I think it's something that people should take advantage of because we not only prepare your taxes as a coalition, but we try to make sure that you have you have your questions answered."

The volunteers who  help with your taxes are trained by the IRS. Just last year they brought in over 3 million people right here in the valley.
