FRANKLIN, LA (WAFB) -

Family and friends are saying their final goodbyes Thursday to a police officer killed in the line of duty.

Sgt. Rick Riggenbach of the Chitimacha Police Department was one of two people killed in the small town of Charenton over the weekend during an attack.

Wilbert Thibodeaux faces murder charges in the shooting deaths of Riggenbach and Eddie Lyons, 78. Thibodeaux remains behind bars.

The visitation for Riggenbach was still under way at noon at Crossing Place Church in Franklin. His funeral service is set to begin at 2 p.m.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office said the United States Honor Flag arrived in Lafayette Thursday morning to honor Riggenbach.

The flag flew over the World Trade Center during recovery efforts and since September 2001, it has paid tribute to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty protecting lives, homes and country, and also those who currently serve communities and the nation.

The flag will be on display for Riggenbach's funeral.

He'll be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
