LSU travels to Starkville to face Mississippi State Saturday

From LSU Sports

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The LSU men's basketball team, off its biggest win of the season over No. 17 Missouri Wednesday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, now tries to take that same intensity on the road here late Saturday afternoon when the Tigers face the Mississippi State Bulldogs at Humphrey Coliseum.

The game will be televised regionally by Fox Sports Net beginning at 4:30 p.m. with the game airing in Louisiana on Fox Sports New Orleans/Fox Sports Southwest (Channel 38 on Baton Rouge Cox Cable) with Dave Neal and Larry Conley and broadcast on the affiliates of the LSU Sports Radio Network (Eagle 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge and in the Geaux Zone at LSUsports.net). Jim Hawthorne and Ricky Blanton will have the call with Kevin Ford the studio host.

LSU is 11-7 overall and 2-5 in the league after wins the last two Wednesday nights at the Maravich Center. Mississippi State is 7-12 and also 2-5 in the league but the Bulldogs have lost five straight after winning their first two conference games.

The Tigers beat a ranked SEC team for the first time since knocking off No.3 Florida in Baton Rouge in February 2007 and did it grand style as Missouri never led in Wednesday's contest. Anthony Hickey had 20 points for the Tigers, while Andre Stringer moved into a tie for 10th all-time at LSU for career three-pointers made (141) with four treys and 18 points. Forward Johnny O'Bryant III had his fourth consecutive double double (14 pts-11 reb) and became the first LSU player with four straight since December 2009.

"It was a good (feeling) after Wednesday's game which was exciting for us," said LSU Coach Johnny Jones. "I thought it was great for our guys with all the hard work that they've put in and to see them rewarded for the effort that they've put in daily at practices and at games. I know we still have a great challenge in front of us on Saturday at Mississippi State. They're a team that is playing extremely hard and continuing to get better each night out. It's a team that, I guess, is somewhat similar to us with their guard play. The difference is, I think they do a great job, somewhat like Texas A&M, of trying to control a little bit more of the tempo in terms of their style of play. It's a game that we look forward to, and we're hopeful that we can continue getting better going into Saturday's game.

"I think anytime that you put yourself in a situation playing against any opponent in our league any given night, you have to make sure that you're trying to be at your best. I think Saturday will be no different for us because Mississippi State's sitting there at home looking for an opportunity to get back on the winning side in terms of conference play. We're obviously out there trying to compete to see if we can string a couple of wins in a row together as well."

State lost to Texas A&M, 55-49, in overtime in Starkville on Wednesday night. State led, 29-17, at halftime before A&M rallied to force the overtime. Both teams had over 20 turnovers in the game and combined for 46 points off the turnovers.
