COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Today is National Pancake Day at all IHOPS across the country. All local proceeds from National Pancake Day support Children's Miracle Network at the Medical Center.

IHOP is giving away a free stack of buttermilk pancakes to every customer. In return, customers are asked to make a $4 donation to cover the costs of pancakes, but any size donation will be appreciated.  Donations will be accepted through 10 p.m. tonight.

This morning at the IHOP on Airport Thruway, Children's Miracle Network held its annual pancake flipping contest.

Ella Goudie, six-year-old Miracle Kid, and Meg Johnson, Child Life Specialist at The Medical Center, stole the show when they won the contest. There were three other contestants, including local businessman and CMN supporter Scott Ressmeyer, The Medical Center's CEO Ryan Chandler and Dr. Jeffrey Brewster, Pediatric Intermediate Care.

News Leader 9 spoke with the owner of the IHOP on Airport Thruway, who explains not only is the event for a good cause, it also involves a friendly competition among the stores.

"My store has won three years in the southeast - highest donations. Last year, we were ex-ed out by one of our other stores in Columbus on Gateway by about $500.  So the competition is back on this year. We'll see what happens again!"  said Daniel Lardinois, franchisee of IHOP on Airport Thruway.
