MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Alabama Department of Homeland Security is opening a criminal investigation into the hacking of the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center's public website.

The ACJIC is the agency responsible for gathering and providing information to law enforcement and criminal justice personnel around the country.

IT industry leaders say confidential bank information was posted on the ACJIC website during the Super Bowl. The state isn't answering many questions related to the case.

Social media and other industry experts say the hacker, Anonymous, is laying claim to the attack.

The ACJIC released a statement Tuesday confirming that the unauthorized posting of a document was made on its public website. The agency says no personally identifiable information is stored on the site. Details regarding the document were not immediately known.

The attack is the second in the several weeks on critical infrastructure of Alabama government computer systems though there is no confirmation the two attacks are connected.

The ALDHS is also investigating the January cyber-intrusion of the Alabama Information Services Division (ISD) which is part of the Dept. of Finance.

IT experts say cyber terrorism acts are growing by the day due to network and firewall vulnerabilities.
