COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Police are investigating a murder suicide that happened at a storage facility on Victory Drive in Columbus, GA.

The bodies of 38-year-old Gonzalo Garcia and 27-year-old Victoria Jacquez were found outside a storage shed at American Storage Company, while an employee was checking the grounds of the facility Tuesday afternoon.

The two were an engaged couple. Their bodies were found outside a storage unit that belonged to the two of them.

A 40-caliber Smith and Wesson gun was found laying between their bodies. Authorities say Garcia, an army captain, fatally shot Jacquez before turning the gun on himself.

The incident possibly occurred around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. They were pronounced dead at 4:35 p.m.

Garcia was assigned to the 199th Infantry Brigade at Fort Benning, GA and was a native of San Francisco, CA. He has been in west Georgia since October of last year and came here from his previous assignment at Fort Bliss, TX.

Some of his awards include two Army Achievement medals, a National Defense medal, a Global War on Terrorism Service medal and an Army Service Ribbon.

News Leader 9 is following this story. We'll have the latest developments as soon as it becomes available.
