AUGUSTA, Ga. – Columbus State's Kori Waugh was named the Peach Belt Conference Softball Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
It is the first time that the senior has won the award.
Waugh was one of the lone bright spots for the No. 10 Lady Cougars' offense in the opening weekend as she hit .400 (4-for-10) in four games. She had two home runs and collected three RBI. Waugh also drew three walks and stole a base as well.
In the opening game of the season against Lynn, the Lady Cougars were down 1-0 in the bottom of the third. With two-outs and a runner on base, Waugh went deep giving CSU the lead. The Lady Cougars went on to win the game 3-2.
On Sunday, Columbus State took on Florida Tech and came out on top 2-1 in eight innings. Waugh recorded two of CSU's three hits in the game including hitting her second long ball of the season in the fifth inning.
In the final game of the weekend, Waugh went 1-for-3 against Florida Southern as the Lady Cougars scored two runs in the top of the seventh to defeat the Moccasins 2-1.
Columbus State will be back in action this weekend competing in the EC Triton Spring Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.
