COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A Columbus family is picking up the pieces after an overnight fire left their home with substantial damage.

It started around 2:00 a.m. Thursday in the carport of a home on Crockett Drive, near 54th Street in Columbus, GA.

Firefighters say an SUV was in flames when they arrived. The fire eventually spread to the attic of the home before it could be put out.

Officials told News Leader 9 everyone inside the home made it out safely.
