The biological father of UA recruit Reuben Foster has been captured after spending the last 16 years on the run from authorities.

He was taken into custody in Miami, Fla. around 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8 more than 16 years after escaping from an Alabama jail.

U.S. Marshals say Danny Foster was wanted on assault and escape charges stemming from a 1996 shooting in which authorities say he injured his estranged wife and young son.

Authorities say Danny Foster shot his wife Inita Berry Paige multiple times in the back while she was holding their 18-month-old son Reuben. Reuben was also struck by a bullet in the back, but both survived the shooting.

Danny Foster fled Alabama after being indicted in Randolph County in February 1996. He was captured in California in March of 1996 and extradited back to Alabama, but escaped from the Randolph County Jail in December 1996. Police say Danny Foster has been on the run ever since.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the investigation that led to Foster's arrest in Miami today. Officials say he was living under a new identity and denied being Danny Foster when captured.

"Only after he was fingerprinted did Foster acknowledge his true identity," a release from the U.S. Marshals stated.

"Foster had been on the run for a while now and this investigation to apprehend him is an example of what can result when tenacious investigators from different agencies work together to get a violent offender behind bars," U.S. Marshal Arthur Baylor said in a release.

Roanoke Police Chief Adam Melton told FOX6 News that Danny Foster is in the process of being extradited back to Alabama.

Foster's son Reuben Foster recently signed a letter of intent to play football for the University of Alabama. He was one of the top recruits in the nation.
