Along with the charge of first degree murder for the shooting death of 23-year-old Christopher Mass, Ricky Neal Jr. has also been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the attempted shooting of Jonathan Lamone Dews, 29, of Tyler.

Neal appeared in court on Monday afternoon to determine who will represent him in the case. O.W. "Buddy" Loyd has been appointed to represent Neal.
