PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ (CBS5) -

A Phoenix couple was arrested Sunday on suspicion of shoplifting at a Prescott Walmart, police said.

A crime prevention officer at the store on Highway 69 alerted police that two customers walked out pushing a shopping cart full of unpaid merchandise, loaded into a vehicle and drove off, Prescott police spokesman Lt. Ken Morley said.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle at the intersection of Highway 69 and Prescott Lakes Parkway.

An officer who spoke to the driver, 38-year-old Stephanie Isban, detected signs of impairment. Isban admitted to using prescription medication which was not prescribed to her, Morley said. Isban was detained.

Her boyfriend, Michael Brandon, also 38, who was passenger in the car, was taken into custody after police found he faced a misdemeanor warrant.

Police searched the car and when they opened the trunk, they found $1,000 worth of merchandise stolen from the store, Morley said.

Officers also found narcotics, prescription only pills, and drug paraphernalia.

Isban and Brandon were taken to the Prescott Police Department for questioning and processing.

Brandon admitted involvement in the shoplifting and drug-related crimes, Morley said. Isban was uncooperative with the officers.
