COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

People lined up in downtown Columbus because lawyers at the Georgia Legal Services program were helping clients for free.

On Friday until 4:30 p.m., volunteer lawyers came together to help those without the finances to pay for counsel.

They were able to advise about any kind of legal situation you may have.

We spoke to Walker Garrett, the lawyer who put the event together locally, who explains why it means so much to him.

"There's a perception out there in a lot of instances that lawyers only care about themselves, only care about money and don't care about giving back," Garrett said. "That's completely false, and I was to dispel that rumor as much as I can by offering myself and service to the community, and getting other lawyers around our community to do the same because we do care."

Georgia Legal Services is on 12th Avenue.

Walk-ins are welcome, but you can make an appointment to ensure there will be a lawyer there who focuses specifically on what you are dealing with.
