Released by the Henderson Police Department:

At approx. 12:20 a.m., on Sunday, February 17, 2013 the Henderson Police Department received a call of multiple shots being fired at the American Legion located at 601 Sand St. in Henderson, Texas.  Officers were informed there was at least one person, inside the building, that had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.  Several people at the scene were already attending to the victim and EMS was called to the scene.  EMS was in the process of transporting the victim to a Longview hospital but diverted to a hospital in Kilgore due to the rapidly declining condition of the victim.  The victim succumbed to his injuries while at the Kilgore hospital.  An autopsy has been ordered.

Information gathered at the scene indicated the victim and the suspect were attending the same function at the American Legion (601 Sand St.) and as the victim got up from a table to go to another area of the building he was shot several times by the suspect.  This same information assisted in the identity of the suspect and where he lived.  Officers from the Henderson Police Department and the Rusk County Sheriff's Office were able to locate the suspect and take him into custody in the 300 Blk of Garden Lane in Henderson, Texas.  The suspect was transported to the Rusk County Jail and booked in on the charge of Murder.

At this time the Henderson Police Department is not able to officially release the identity of the victim before proper notification of relatives.  The suspect has not been before a magistrate but is scheduled to appear before one sometime Tuesday (19th).

The victim is described as a black-male, age 53 of Henderson, Texas.  The suspect is also a black-male age 60 of Henderson.

The investigation into this offense is continuing.
