CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

The newest addition to the Gladys Porter Zoo's Western lowland gorilla troop will soon join her new family at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden.

The infant female was born on Tuesday, Jan. 29 to parents Kiazi and silverback male, Moja.
Kiazi is on breeding loan transfer from the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden.

Kiazi's baby is being hand-reared by GPZ zookeepers because the new mom displayed a lack of maternal care. All parties agreed that relocation was the best course of action for the baby because the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden has two female gorillas available to serve as potential surrogate mothers. Both adult females have proven to be excellent mothers.

Through this breeding loan, this baby female gorilla belongs to the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. The Gladys Porter Zoo, Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden and SSP coordinators have decided to relocate the baby gorilla to the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden for introduction into their gorilla troop.

The baby will be relocated within the next week. The baby gorilla has not yet been named.

On Wednesday, the Cincinnati Zoo's keeper got to meet the new addition.
