(WTVM) -
Andrew Young is an American
politician, diplomat, activist and pastor from Georgia.
He has served as mayor of Atlanta,
a congressman from the 5th district and United States Ambassador to the United
Nations.
He served as president of
the National Council of Churches, was a member of the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference during the 1960s Civil Rights Movement and was a
supporter and friend of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Young has been a part of
the American landscape for all of my life.
Young was in Columbus this
week as the key note speaker at the Annual Black History Observance
Breakfast.
Congratulations and thanks
to that group for allowing us to be in the presence of such a great American.
At that breakfast, our own
state senator Ed Harbison was named this year's Leadership Legacy recipient. Congratulations
to Senator Harbison for this honor and for all of his great contributions to
our district.
