MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) -

Investigators say they are looking for a 34-year-old Summerville man after he fired an AK-47 into an apartment building following a road rage incident Sunday afternoon in Moncks Corner.

The Moncks Corner Police Department is looking for Curtis Twyon Mitchell of Summerville.

On Sunday afternoon, officers responded to a building on Bradley Road in reference to damaged property. The 22-year-old victim told officers that someone armed with an AK-47 fired at an apartment he was in.

The victim said it all started when he almost hit a car, which Mitchell was driving, in the Cedar Grove subdivision near his sister-in-law's home on Allen Richard Court.

Police say when the victim got to his sister-in-law's home, he went to the front door and saw Mitchell driving a truck and pointing an assault rifle. Mitchell then said he was going to shoot the victim, according to a police report.

Authorities say Mitchell told the victim that he wanted to fight. The victim then told Mitchell to drop the weapon and he would fight. According to police, the victim then came out and began to fight the suspect.

The victim said after he hit Mitchell, knocking him to the ground, he quickly got in his car and left the area.

Police say the victim then returned to his apartment and some time later saw Mitchell in a pick up truck entering the apartment complex. The victim and his girlfriend then headed inside a neighbor's apartment.

According to investigators, Mitchell got out of his truck with an assault fire and opened fire at the building.

The victim said he could hear a woman, who he believed to be the suspect's girlfriend, saying,"Put the gun up. I am calling the police. Stop put the gun away. I am calling the police."

Officers found eleven 7.62 caliber shell casings in the area of the shooting.

On Monday, the victim positively identified Mitchell as the suspect. Police say the following day, Mitchell called police and left a message stating that he was involved in the fight but denied anything to do with the shooting.

Mitchell then spoke on the phone with authorities and told them that his "homeboy" did the shooting.

When authorities questioned the identity of Mitchell's "homeboy", investigators say Mitchell became "irate and verbally abusive" saying "he was a black man and knew the deal."

Mitchell claimed that his "homeboy's" street name was "lover." Additionally, Mitchell told investigators that "lover" was going to deliver something to the victim, who Mitchell claimed started shooting.

Investigators told Mitchell that warrants had been issued for his arrest and that he needed to turn himself in. Mitchell then hung up the phone.

According to police, Mitchell has an extensive history of assault and resisting arrest charges. Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
