DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Two women are in custody after they led Decatur Police officers on a chase Thursday morning.

Police said the incident began when officers tried to stop their car on 6th Avenue around 2:30 a.m.

Officers said the driver then sped off. At one point, they reached speeds up to 80 miles per hour.

Police said they rammed into two patrol cars along the way, before hitting an insurance building on 6th Avenue near 11th Street.

The chase continued as the car struck a light pole near Mike's Merchandise on 14th Street and knocked off a light.

The car finally crashed into a ditch off Central Parkway near Blue Bird Lane. Both passengers ran when the car crashed, leading police on a short foot chase.

Police took both women into custody. They were not injured.

The offenders were identified as Crystal Hitt and Shana Gayle Howard. Hitt had arrest warrants issued against her.

Hitt was charged with failure to appear, attempting to flee and elude, four counts of leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, resisting arrest, driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Howard was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
