However, an Auburn University research team has created a test using a biosensor that will help doctors go from hours to minutes in identifying super bacteria like MRSA, a type of staph bacteria that can cause deadly skin infections.
FLAGSTAFF, AZ (AP) -

Attorneys for a man who fled an Arizona prison and now faces federal murder charges in New Mexico say he's been seriously ill.

The illness led a judge to postpone John McCluskey's trial from March until late July.

McCluskey's attorneys say it could take several months to stabilize the condition that has left him physically and mentally weak.

Federal officials and the New Mexico Corrections Department won't comment on his health.

Prosecutors write in court documents they want to be assured by McCluskey's doctors that he's not exaggerating the condition to avoid trial.

The 47-year-old McCluskey has made no secret of his desire to steer clear of a trial and the death penalty.

He recently agreed to plea negotiations, but prosecutors say there's no middle ground in the case.
