WTVM 2/22/13 Editorial: It's your time to speak out about military cutbacks

Posted: Updated:
(WTVM) -

You have all heard about the planned military cutbacks in Georgia and Alabama.

The latest numbers predict Georgia will lose over 17,000 jobs with an economic impact of $931 million. Alabama is impacted even more with a loss of 25,000 jobs and an economic loss of $1.9 billion.

Just two years ago we were anticipating huge increases at Fort Benning, and now we are looking at the numbers going in the opposite direction. Our chambers of commerce and city and state officials are working hard to help prevent some of these losses which would be devastating to some communities and they need our help.

You have the opportunity to call your congressmen and senators to express your opinions until March 21, a 30-day extension of the original deadline.

Take advantage of that extension and make your feelings known.
