PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A DUI suspect accused of dragging a Phoenix police officer for two blocks on Sunday has been released from the hospital and booked into jail.

Hayden Daughters, 31, faces a number of charges, including aggravated DUI, failure to stop for police, resisting arrest and aggravated assault.

Police said they initiated a DUI stop near 34th Place at Glenrosa about 12:45 a.m. Sunday.

One of the officers was speaking to Daughters, who was driving the vehicle, when he pulled away with the officer still holding onto the window.

Daughters dragged the officer two blocks, hitting two vehicles, a fence and eventually crashing head-on into a tree, investigators said.

"My heart was pounding because I just think, I mean it hit right here and my house is a few feet away and it could have easily hit my house," said witness Alexandra Garay.

"At some point during those collisions, both the officer and driver of the vehicle were thrown from the vehicle and sustained injuries," according to Phoenix police spokeswoman Lt. Mandy Faust.

The unidentified officer, who was been on the force for four years, was knocked unconscious and suffered a head wound. He is in good condition.
