COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

People standing outside the Stop and Shop convenience store in Columbus are lucky to be alive after the driver of a passing car began randomly shooting at them.

It began when a man walked into the 11th avenue location before 11 a.m. Saturday.  Store employee, Robert Hill, said he was looking for misplaced marijuana.

"He came in the store and asked, ‘did anybody pick up any green?', and everybody said, ‘no.'  So he went back in the car, left, and went that way," said Hill.

Employees think the man didn't believe them when they said they didn't find any drugs he may have dropped in the store.  After getting back into his red sports car, the suspect drove away, but returned minutes later.  By the time he came back, Hill was outside sweeping in the parking lot.

"I saw all those cigarette butts he had dumped out of the car, so I was out there sweeping them up. When he came back, he was shooting," said Hill.

Customers were also standing outside the store, some of them arrived too late to have seen the man's first visit.  As the driver of the red car passed the store, he rolled down his window, prompting one of the customers to wave ‘hello.'  But instead of waving back, the driver started firing a gun.  Several windows of the store were broken, but by Sunday afternoon, they were already replaced.

No one was injured during the shooting.

Police are still looking for the driver of that red sports car.
