BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A special wish came true today for Emma Mitchell, a four-year-old girl who has been battling brain cancer for the past eight months.

Emma's dream was to meet her favorite princesses, Jasmine and Cinderella, plus the boy who never grew up, Peter Pan. All three storybook characters flew in to Birmingham to meet Emma in person on Tuesday afternoon. The characters also spent time with other young patients being treated at Children's of Alabama hospital.

Emma was diagnosed with a brain tumor last June and has been fighting her cancer at Children's hospital. Most recently, she went through a stem cell transplant in December.

The organization Friends by Your Side made the visit possible after the organization's founder, Martino Cartier, heard about Emma's story. Friends by Your Side is a national non-profit organization that grants wishes for sick children and also provides custom wigs for female cancer patients going through chemotherapy.

"We grant wishes for seriously ill children to help them get through the toughest battle of their young lives," Cartier explained in a press release.

Friends by Your Side has helped other child cancer patients meet celebrities including Justin Bieber and Adam Sandler, according to their website. Find out more about the organization at  www.friendsarebyyourside.com.
