AUGUSTA, Ga. – Columbus State's Zach Helewski was named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Helewski becomes the first Cougar this season to win a weekly PBC award.
The right-hander opened the three game series against Augusta State with a complete game four-hitter. The junior allowed one unearned run and struck out 11 to get his first win at CSU.
A throwing error in the sixth inning allowed the lone run to come across as Helewski struck out the next batter to get out of the inning. His 11 strikeouts are the most by a CSU pitcher in a game this season.
Helewski is now ranked inside the top 10 in innings (26) and strikeouts (25) in the PBC.
