MILLBROOK, AL (WSFA) -
A Michigan man who dropped his wallet at a crime scene was taken into custody Sunday and charged in connection with two armed robberies in Millbrook and Montgomery.
Millbrook authorities say Jeremy Peter Somers, 27, used a knife to hold up the Front Porch Grill in Millbrook Sunday around 7 a.m. Just hours prior, he's accused of kidnapping a woman and her two children in Montgomery and ordering her to withdrew money from an ATM.
Somers was arrested following a call from employees at the Millbrook restaurant who told police a man armed with a knife robbed the cashier. He then fled the store, running across Deatsville Highway and towards Highway 14.
Restaurant employees who spoke with WSFA 12 News said Somers actually ate breakfast and paid for his meal, presumably with his first victim's money, before leaving. They say he quickly returned to rob the establishment.
Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson said officers responded to the call and quickly found a man matching the robbery suspect's description walking behind a nearby business on Highway 14.
Somers, was taken to the Millbrook Police Department where he was charged with robbery in the first degree.
It didn't take long before similarities in the cases linked the Millbrook robbery to a kidnapping and robbery in nearby Montgomery.
Just 7 hours prior to the Millbrook robbery, Montgomery police say a woman at the CVS Pharmacy on Atlanta Highway was approached by Somers, who ordered the woman at knife-point to drive to an ATM and withdraw cash.
After robbing the woman, authorities say Somers ordered her to take him back to the original location where he confronted her. Though Somers did not physically injure the woman or her two children, he killed any chance of remaining anonymous after he inadvertently dropped his wallet inside the victim's vehicle.
While Somers is in the custody of Elmore County officials, the Montgomery Police Department has secured warrants against him for robbery in the first degree and kidnapping in the second degree.
Somers is currently waiting to have a bond set.
