PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -
The judge who last week sentenced a man to two consecutive life terms for the rape and murder of Prattville resident Patricia Lasserre ruled on a motion Tuesday regarding a new trial.
Judge Sibley Reynolds' ruling denied Clifford Wynn's motion for a new trial in Autauga County. Judge Reynolds did not give a reason for issuing the denial.
Wynn's attorney argued that the state's evidence against him during his trial in December 2012 was not sufficient for a conviction.
The trial lasted just one day beyond opening arguments.
Patricia Lasserre was last seen leaving her job at the Clanton Walmart on December 19, 2005. She never made it to her Prattville home. Her SUV was found on Autauga County Road 1 and her body was discovered nearby.
It took several years before authorities arrested Wynn, but he was later released because authorities felt their evidence was not enough to indict. Wynn was re-arrested and charged with Lasserre's murder after DNA linked him to the crime.
At his sentencing on February 25, Wynn was vocal in protesting his conviction saying he was "railroaded" by the legal system and because he had bad counsel. He shared an obscene gesture with the judge and courtroom as he was led away in handcuffs.
Wynn remains in the Autauga County Metro Jail waiting to be transferred to a state prison.
