CALERA, AL (WSFA) -

A Birmingham church van lost control and flipped on I-65 around 5:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The accident shut down northbound traffic near mile marker 228 at the Chilton County and Shelby County line in Calera.

All northbound lanes of I-65 have been reopened.

Calera fire officials say 6 passengers were taken to local hospitals. All injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

Officials say the Birmingham church group was headed back from an event in Montgomery. The accident may have been the result of a tire blowout.

Details are limited at this time. WSFA 12 News will bring you the latest updates as they are made available.
