PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Three people from Michigan walked out of the Superstition Mountains on their own after they were reported missing during a hike Sunday, according to a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

The hikers, two men and a woman in their 50s, were reported overdue from their hike around 5 p.m. Sunday.

An MCSO spokesman said deputies had been in contact with the hikers, who refused medical treatment and walked out of the First Water Trail area without assistance from searchers.

The spokesman said the hikers - a man and his wife and brother - did everything they should before going on their hike.

They alerted family members where they were going, the name of the trail, were dressed appropriately and had food and water with them.

The started their hike late Sunday and decided to stay the night and begin their hike again at sunrise. They were walking out when they were seen by rescuers about 7 a.m., the spokesman said.

He said they were cold from spending the night in the wild, but otherwise were in good condition.

No citations will be issued, the spokesman said.

No other information was immediately available.
