NOGALES, AZ (CBS5) -

A 22-year-old Mexican man was arrested early Sunday on charges of trying to smuggle more than $393,000 worth of methamphetamine through a southern Arizona border checkpoint.

The SUV that Jesus Roberto Castro-Lopez, a legal permanent resident of Tucson, was driving was selected for an additional inspection at the Dennis DeConcini Port.

A Customs and Border Protection narcotics detection K-9 was called in to inspect the vehicle. The dog alerted to the presence of drugs in the dash area.

A CBP officer found 20 packages of methamphetamine with a combined weight of nearly 25 1/2 pounds.

The drugs and vehicle were processed for seizure. Martinez was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
