Panthers hoping to pack Civic Center for home opener

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

It's been almost 9 months since almost 6,000 fans packed the Albany Civic Center to watch the Panthers win its second consecutive league championship.

General manager Will Carter is hoping for the same kind of atmosphere this Saturday when the Panthers open the doors for the first time since winning the PIFL championship.

He says it will be a special treat for the fans as cross-state rival Columbus comes to town. Carter has been busy at work this off season trying to build up even more buzz for the team and says the Panther's TV deal on WALB-ABC helps spread the word even further.

"Last year we were able to strike a TV deal. The one thing with that is that we wanted to reach out to surrounding counties like Dawson and Sylvester so the fans can actually see us on TV and say hey that's pretty exciting let's come down and check them out. Hopefully doing that last year and hopefully the turnover this year we'll see these end zones filled up over here. It's always been a tough spot for us but hopefully we can do that with the TV deal we placed last year with ABC."

For tickets you can contact the Albany Civic Center, game time is 7:30pm on Saturday.
