OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) -

It's been almost two days since the historic West Point Pepperell Mill in Opelika burned to the ground and firefighters are still on the scene picking up the pieces.

The East Alabama and Auburn fire departments are working together to put out the remaining hot spots inside the building.

The blaze, which began on Tuesday night, is being described as the largest in the city's history.

Officials say the third floor has collapsed onto the second floor, and it is still too unsafe for investigators to get in and look for clues about what started the fire.

We are told by officials they expect to be able to release more information sometime Thursday afternoon.
