(WTVM) -

News Leader 9's Jason Dennis got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity on Friday, flying in a B-25 bomber used in World War II.

He and WTVM photographer Paul Therrien were the only local TV crew who got to fly in this 1944 Warbird. This plane and many more were featured at last weekend's annual Thunder in the Valley Air Show at the Columbus Airport.

This B-25 Mitchell bomber is being used to bring awareness to Disabled Veterans of America, a group helping vets get the benefits they deserve.

As for Friday's flight, they even got to crawl below the pilots, into the nose of the plane!

"What we fly during the air show would make a lot of people sick, turning and banking and showing this plane can fly like a fighter. This plane was used as a bomber, also for close air support, ground attack..."

The Thunder in the Valley Air Show was last Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 5 at the Columbus Airport.

Advance general admission tickets were $10 and $8 for military.

All proceeds benefited local children's charities.
